Faculty of Pharmacy Universitas Gadjah Mada and The University of Edinburgh Explore Partnership for Double Degree and Internationalization Programs

Yogyakarta, July 28, 2025 — The Faculty of Pharmacy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) has taken a proactive step to expand its global footprint by welcoming a delegation from The University of Edinburgh, Scotland. The meeting, held in the RSP Room at the Advanced Pharmaceutical Sciences Learning Center (APSLC) Building, served as an initial forum to discuss strategic collaboration opportunities for dual degree programs.

The UGM Faculty of Pharmacy delegation was led by the Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, Cooperation, and Alumni Affairs, Prof. Dr.rer.nat. apt. Nanang Fakhrudin, M.Si., accompanied Devi Afifa Rahma, S.Tr.Li. as the Office of International Affairs of the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM. In his opening remarks, Prof. Nanang expressed his enthusiasm for the meeting, viewing it as a gateway to enhancing the quality of international-standard education and research.

“Collaboration with a world-renowned institution like The University of Edinburgh is integral to our vision of creating a superior and globally competitive educational ecosystem. We hope this exploratory discussion will quickly proceed to the implementation of programs that will offer tremendous added value for students and both our institutions,” stated Prof. Nanang.

The main focus of the discussion was to design a collaborative framework for dual degree programs. These initiatives are expected to provide students with the opportunity to study at two leading universities, broaden their cross-cultural perspectives, and obtain internationally recognized academic qualifications, thereby enhancing their future career prospects.

This initiative aligns with the UGM Faculty of Pharmacy’s commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By establishing innovative educational programs, this partnership directly contributes to SDG 4, Quality Education. Furthermore, the cross-national collaboration is a tangible implementation of SDG 17, Partnerships for the Goals, strengthening global networks for mutual progress. The potential for joint research arising from this partnership will also drive innovation, in line with SDG 9, Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure.
