Yogyakarta, 29 May 2026 — A team of students from the Faculty of Pharmacy of Universitas Gadjah Mada has once again achieved an outstanding success on the national stage at the Pharmacy Competition (PHARMACOMP 2026), organised by the Himpunan Mahasiswa Sarjana Farmasi (HIMAFARSI) at Universitas Muhammadiyah Pekajangan, Pekalongan. The competition was attended by health students from various universities across Indonesia, with the team from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Gadjah Mada, participating in one of the competition categories, namely the Scientific Essay Competition. This year, the competition adopted the theme “Healthy Ecosystem: Reducing AMR Sustainably” as a platform for presenting innovative ideas regarding the control of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR).
In this competition, the team from the Faculty of Pharmacy of Universitas Gadjah Mada, comprising Faqih Fikri Nuryanto and Wimala Sephastika, secured a second place overall in the Scientific Essay Competition with their essay entitled “RESISGUARD: An Integrated Website for Antibiotic Management and National Resistance Mapping as a Preventive Strategy for Sustainable Antimicrobial Resistance Control.” This essay addresses the issue of rising antibiotic resistance rates due to irrational use and suboptimal management of household antibiotic waste in Indonesia. Through the RESISGUARD innovation, or RGuard for short, the team from the Faculty of Pharmacy at Universitas Gadjah Mada offers a website-based digital platform that integrates an Antibiotic Return System, public education, and national antibiotic resistance risk mapping, specifically designed to support AMR control through a technology- and data-driven preventive approach.
This achievement serves as clear evidence of the contribution made by students from the Faculty of Pharmacy of Universitas Gadjah Mada in delivering innovations relevant to global health challenges. Through scientific, practical and sustainable ideas, the Pharmacy Student Team of Universitas Gadjah Mada is expected to continue contributing to the development of technology-based health solutions to support the control of antimicrobial resistance in Indonesia. Furthermore, this success also demonstrates the Faculty of Pharmacy at Universitas Gadjah Mada’s support for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This achievement contributes directly to SDG 3 on Good Health and Well-being through the RESISGUARD innovation to control AMR, SDG 9 on Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure through the mapping of antibiotic resistance risks via data integrated into the RESISGUARD website, and SDG 12 on Responsible Consumption and Production, which is featured on the website as the Antibiotic Return System to manage leftover antibiotics to prevent misuse.
