Yogyakarta, August 3, 2026 – Joy filled the heart of Cesarina Liasari, a newly admitted undergraduate student at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), after achieving her long-held dream of studying at UGM while also receiving a full tuition fee waiver through the University’s Single Tuition Fee (UKT) scheme, reducing her tuition fee to Rp0.
Affectionately known as Cesa, being admitted to UGM represents not only an academic achievement but also the realization of a dream she has nurtured since elementary school. Her passion for science, healthcare, and laboratory research grew stronger throughout high school, ultimately leading her to pursue a degree in Pharmacy at UGM.
Her journey to higher education, however, was far from easy. While preparing for university entrance examinations, Cesa experienced the loss of her beloved father in mid-May. Shortly afterward, she also received the disappointing news that she had not been admitted through Indonesia’s National Computer-Based Written Test (SNBT).
“While I was preparing for the entrance examinations, my father passed away. Soon after, I found out that I had not been accepted through the SNBT. It was a very difficult time for both me and my family,” Cesa recalled.
Despite these hardships, she chose to persevere. Throughout her preparation, Cesa studied independently using textbooks and practiced exam questions every day. She also remained actively involved in various school organizations and competitions as part of her personal development.
Her determination eventually paid off when she was admitted to the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM through the Independent Admission pathway. The joyful news became even more meaningful when she learned that she had been granted a full UKT waiver, providing significant financial relief for her family.
“Receiving the UKT 0 designation is an extraordinary blessing for our family. Since my father passed away, our financial situation has not been stable. This support has greatly eased our financial burden,” she said.
Cesa’s mother also expressed her gratitude for the opportunity her daughter had received. She explained that the family had been deeply concerned about financing Cesa’s education following the change in their financial circumstances. The tuition waiver, therefore, became a source of hope during a challenging period.
“We are incredibly grateful. This assistance means so much to our family, especially while our financial condition is still unstable. Moreover, Cesa has been accepted into the study program she has dreamed of for so many years,” she said.
The opportunity to pursue higher education without the burden of tuition fees has motivated Cesa to make the most of her time at the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM. She is committed to studying diligently, participating actively in student organizations and competitions aligned with her interests, and striving for academic excellence.
“I want to make the most of every opportunity, study as hard as I can, participate in organizations and competitions, and one day be able to help improve my family’s economic situation,” she said.
Cesa also shared an encouraging message for other students pursuing their educational aspirations despite difficult circumstances.
“Never let your circumstances make you afraid to dream. Believe that everyone has their own path and blessings. What matters most is to keep striving, stay motivated, and never give up when facing challenges,” she encouraged.
Cesa’s story also reflects the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM’s commitment to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By providing equitable tuition support that eases the financial burden on students from economically disadvantaged families, the University contributes to SDG 1, No Poverty.
