Expanding Student Opportunities, Faculty of Pharmacy UGM Initiates Strategic Industrial Visit with Three Leading Pharmaceutical Industries

Yogyakarta 18 Mei 2026 Alongside its participation in the Indonesia Cosmetics Ingredients (ICI) event, a delegation from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), conducted a series of strategic industrial visits to three leading pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies in Indonesia: PT Bintang Toedjoe, PT SOHO Global Health, and PT Etana Biotechnologies Indonesia. This pivotal visit was led by faculty members and leadership representatives, namely Prof. Dr.rer.nat. apt. Endang Lukitaningsih, M.Si. (Vice Dean for Finance, Assets, and Human Resources), apt. Purwanto, M.Sc., Ph.D. (Head of Bachelor in Pharmacy), and Dr.Eng. apt. Khadijah, M.Si., representing the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM. The visits were precisely focused on opening doors for practical collaborations, especially in providing structured industrial internship programs for Undergraduate (S1) Pharmacy students of UGM.

The industrial visits were warmly received by the executive management of each company. Throughout the discussions, the three industrial partners expressed high openness toward academic enrichment initiatives. The targeted commitments encompass the provision of systematic industrial internship slots, joint research opportunities for student undergraduate theses, and practitioner-led teaching programs through guest lectures and regular field visits.

For the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM, this collaboration marks a crucial milestone in accelerating the implementation of experiential learning. By gaining direct exposure to manufacturing dynamics, quality assurance, and research and development (R&D) processes at PT. Bintang Toedjoe, SOHO Global Health, dan PT Etana Biotechnologies Indonesia, pharmacy students are expected to sharpen both technical and soft skills that align with modern industrial standards. The high readiness of these partners serves as a vital bridge in reducing the gap between campus academic theories and the operational realities of the manufacturing sector.

This collaborative initiative closely aligns with the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM’s commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Specifically, this program contributes to the achievement of SDG 4 (Quality Education) by providing inclusive professional training platforms for students, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by establishing a solid synergy between academia and the manufacturing industry to produce future-ready pharmaceutical professionals.
