Yogyakarta, August 31, 2026 — The Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), took part in the implementation of the IPSF Student Exchange Program (SEP) through a research and learning program held at the Advanced Pharmaceutical Sciences (APS) Laboratory. Organized by the Executive Board of the Faculty of Pharmacy Student Family (BEM KMFA) UGM, the program was attended by Viviana Nicole Simbana Cangas, a student from Ecuador, for approximately six weeks, from July 19 to August 31, 2026.
As part of the final activities of the program, a Learning Outcomes Presentation for the IPSF Student Exchange Program (SEP) was held on Monday (August 31) at the APS Laboratory, Faculty of Pharmacy UGM. During the session, Viviana presented the knowledge and research experience she gained throughout the program. The presentation provided an opportunity to share the process and outcomes of her activities while exchanging knowledge and experiences with members of the UGM Faculty of Pharmacy academic community.
During the program, Viviana conducted research entitled “Exploration of Microalgae as Raw Material for Cosmetic Application,” under the supervision of Prof. Dr.rer.nat. apt. Endang Lukitaningsih, M.Si. The research focused on exploring microalgae as a potential raw material for cosmetic applications.
Throughout the research process, Viviana gained hands-on experience using various analytical instruments available at the APS Laboratory, including LC-MS/MS, spectrophotometers, a microplate reader, and Thin-Layer Chromatography (TLC). This experience allowed Viviana to expand her technical skills while gaining insights into the research process within an Indonesian academic environment.
Beyond research experience, Viviana’s participation in the program also provided an opportunity to interact with members of the UGM Faculty of Pharmacy academic community and learn more about the educational and research environment in Indonesia. Through this student exchange program, the exchange of knowledge and experiences is expected to strengthen international networks and create opportunities for future academic and research collaboration, particularly in the field of pharmacy and the utilization of natural products for cosmetic applications.
The implementation of the IPSF Student Exchange Program at the UGM Faculty of Pharmacy also contributes to SDG 4 (Quality Education) through cross-border learning and knowledge exchange, as well as SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through strengthened international networks and collaboration in education and research.
