Malang, August 29, 2026 — Postgraduate students from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), achieved outstanding results at the 5th Health Science International Conference (HSIC) and 17th ISCC Annual Meeting, held at Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), Malang, East Java, on August 28–29, 2026. Under the theme “Recent Advances in the Prevention, Treatment, and Supporting Cares for Cancer and Chronic Diseases,” the international scientific conference provided a forum for academics, researchers, healthcare professionals, practitioners, and students to exchange recent developments and innovations in the prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and supportive care of cancer and chronic diseases.
Three postgraduate students from the UGM Faculty of Pharmacy received awards at the conference. Ni Putu Linda Laksmiani, a student of the Doctoral Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences, received the Best Oral Presenter award for her research entitled “CCB-4–N-methylglucamine Complex Induces Cell-Cycle Disruption, Mitotic Catastrophe, and Apoptosis in Luminal Breast Cancer Cells.” Meanwhile, from the Master’s Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Dhecella Winy Cintya Ningrum received the Best Oral Presenter award for her research entitled “Integrated LC-HRMS Metabolomics and Network Pharmacology Reveal Antithrombotic Compounds and Molecular Mechanisms of Acmella oleracea,” while Nuha Haifa Arifin received the 3rd Best Poster award for her research entitled “LC–HRMS-Guided Network Pharmacology and Molecular Docking Reveal Multi-Target Murrayamine E from Murraya koenigii L. Targeting the NF-κB Signaling Pathway.”
The three studies demonstrate the diverse scientific approaches developed by students at the UGM Faculty of Pharmacy, ranging from anticancer candidate development and metabolomics to network pharmacology, molecular docking, and the exploration of natural products. Participation in the international forum also provided the students with an opportunity to disseminate their research findings, receive feedback from the scientific community, and broaden their perspectives on the latest developments in pharmaceutical and health sciences.
The students’ participation in the conference also aligns with efforts to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, through research aimed at advancing the prevention and management of cancer and chronic diseases; SDG 4: Quality Education, through strengthening students’ academic capacity, research skills, and learning experiences in an international scientific forum; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, through knowledge exchange and the development of academic networks across institutions and countries. Their involvement therefore contributes not only to academic and professional development but also to broader health and sustainable development agendas.
The conference featured a number of keynote and invited speakers from Indonesia and abroad, representing diverse areas of expertise. Prof. Hiroyuki Nakamura from the Institute of Science Tokyo, Japan, was among the keynote speakers. Other speakers listed in the conference program included Dr. Qiu Xian-Yang, who discussed chemoprevention of liver cancer by retinoids; Ambara Rahmat Pradipta, Ph.D., who addressed approaches to precision cancer therapy; Dimas Sondang Irawan, Ph.D., who discussed physical rehabilitation and exercise oncology in supporting the quality of life of patients with cancer and chronic diseases; Dr. Ahmad Shobrun Jamil, M.S., who addressed phytochemical screening and targeted drug delivery systems for chronic diseases; and Ns. Henie Tri Rahayu, Ph.D., who discussed quality of life and supportive care for patients with advanced cancer. The keynote and invited sessions therefore covered not only anticancer therapeutic development but also natural products, rehabilitation, exercise oncology, and supportive and palliative care, reflecting the multidisciplinary focus of the conference.
The success of the three UGM Faculty of Pharmacy postgraduate students in receiving awards at the conference contributes to the achievements of the UGM academic community in strengthening a culture of research and knowledge dissemination at the international level. These accomplishments also demonstrate the potential of postgraduate research to contribute to the advancement of pharmaceutical sciences and efforts to improve public health.
