UGM’s Faculty of Pharmacy and Beacons Pharmaceutical Industries Explore Collaboration to Strengthen Pharmaceutical Education, Research, and Innovation

Yogyakarta, June 18, 2026 – The Faculty of Pharmacy at Gadjah Mada University (UGM) is exploring opportunities for strategic collaboration with Beacons Pharmaceutical Industries (BPI) in Semarang through a visit and discussions aimed at strengthening synergy between the university and the pharmaceutical industry. This initiative marks the first step in building a collaboration that supports the development of education, research, and innovation in the field of pharmacy to address future health challenges. 

During the visit, the delegation from the UGM Faculty of Pharmacy had the opportunity to see firsthand the various facilities at BPI, ranging from production facilities to Research and Development (R&D) and Quality Control laboratories, as well as laboratory testing and analysis services. These facilities were deemed to have great potential to support academic activities, research, and innovation development relevant to the needs of the national pharmaceutical industry. 

In addition to introducing the company’s facilities, the two institutions also discussed various opportunities for collaboration, including joint research, student internship programs, guest lectures by industry practitioners, and human resource capacity building. Through this collaboration, the UGM Faculty of Pharmacy and BPI hope to strengthen the ties between the academic and industrial sectors while promoting the commercialization of research findings to provide broader benefits to society. 

The Associate Dean for Research, Community Service, Collaboration, and Alumni Affairs at the UGM Faculty of Pharmacy, Prof. Dr.rer.nat. apt. Nanang Fakhrudin, M.Si., welcomed this collaboration opportunity as part of efforts to expand strategic partnership networks that support improvements in the quality of education, research, and community service. Meanwhile, the General Manager of Beacons Pharmaceutical Industries, Drs. apt. Victor S. Ringoringo, S.E., M.Sc., expressed the company’s commitment to continuing to build collaborations with universities to support the advancement of a national pharmaceutical industry that is innovative, competitive, and capable of meeting the needs of society. 

This collaboration between the UGM Faculty of Pharmacy and Beacons Pharmaceutical Industries is expected to have a positive impact on the advancement of science, the improvement of human resources, and the progress of the national pharmaceutical industry. This initiative is also aligned with the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) through the strengthening of health innovations, SDG 4 (Quality Education) through the improvement of the quality of learning and industry experience for students, SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by developing the competencies of human resources ready to compete, SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) by strengthening pharmaceutical research and technology development, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through sustainable synergy between universities and industry.
