Yogyakarta, April 25, 2026 – A cross-university student collaboration has successfully secured the First Runner Up title at the Hackathon 2026. The team consists of Lia Nur Arifah, Luthfiah Septiani, and Muhammad Abiy Farras Sakhiy from UGM Bachelor of Pharmacy, alongside Dini Valerina Permata from Airlangga University (UNAIR) and Jessica Angelina from Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB). Organized by the ISPE DIY-Jateng Student Chapter, the competition carried the theme “Navigating Real-World Challenges in the Pharmaceuticals Industry: Innovation, Quality, and Digital Transformation”. The event was conducted through several stages, ranging from Briefing & Case Release, Check-In 1, Check-In 2, to the live presentation (Final Pitch Deck) before the judges on April 25, 2026.
This achievement was gained through their project entitled “Sterile Injection Navigation: From Generic to Digital Biotechnology.” In the competition, they analyzed and solved a real-world case study regarding the strategic transformation of a pharmaceutical company named Medihorison. The team conducted a comprehensive Pharma Industry Analysis to address a margin crisis and regulatory pressures in 2025. The solution they proposed was formulated into the “IMPROVISE Strategy,” an industrial transformation blueprint to shift conventional manufacturing lines toward a digital-based biotechnology era to guarantee business sustainability and corporate social value.
The project was also methodically designed to support the acceleration of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Indonesia. By focusing on the transformation toward digital biotechnology products, this project supports SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) by fostering the availability of high-quality sterile injection preparations to expand access to advanced medical therapies. Furthermore, the strategy contributes to SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) as it drives the modernization of the conventional pharmaceutical manufacturing sector through digital technology and biotechnology integration. Lastly, the success of this project manifests SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), demonstrated by the strategic collaboration between students from three leading Indonesian universities, practitioners, and academicians to solve real challenges in the healthcare industry.
