Yogyakarta, 3 November 2026 – The Faculty of Pharmacy at Gadjah Mada University (UGM) is organising a Workshop on Student Academic and Cultural Exchange, which will take place from 3 to 7 November 2026. This event involved student delegations from Chiba University and Gifu University, Japan, as a concrete manifestation of the implementation of the 2025 Research and Innovation for an Advanced Indonesia–International Collaboration (RIIM KI JST) grant program.

To mark the start of the first day of the event on Tuesday (3/11), the program began with an official welcome and a detailed discussion of the students’ itinerary for the duration of the workshop. The welcome address was delivered in person by Prof Dr. apt. Abdul Rohman, M.Si., Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at UGM. In his address, Prof. Abdul expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the visit of the delegations from Chiba and Gifu Universities to the Faculty of Pharmacy at UGM.

The agenda then continued with an introduction to the delegates’ home institutions. During this session, delegates from Chiba University and Gifu University presented profiles of their respective campuses, academic activities and the educational ecosystem in Japan. The delegates then continued their presentations by outlining their latest research findings on cancer

This initiative, launched and chaired by Dr. apt. Riris Istighfari Jenie, M.Si., is not only aimed at fostering collaboration and academic exchange, but also forms an integral part of efforts to build capacity and research networks at the Cancer Chemoprevention Research Centre (CCRC) of the Faculty of Pharmacy, UGM. Furthermore, this workshop was designed to provide participants with a comprehensive experience. In addition to the academic programme and a tour of the faculty, the delegation was also invited to immerse themselves in the local culture through visits to the UGM Museum, the Yogyakarta Royal Palace, the Sonobudoyo Museum, the Malioboro area and Borobudur Temple.

Undoubtedly, the organisation of this Workshop on Student Academic and Cultural Exchange is a tangible demonstration of the Faculty of Pharmacy’s commitment to supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. The establishment of this cross-border collaboration and international student exchange embodies the spirit of SDG 17 on Partnerships for the Goals. Furthermore, this event—which provides a forum for academic discussion, presentations, institutional profiles and cross-cultural understanding—serves as a key driver for broadening horizons and raising standards in student education management, in line with SDG 4 on Quality Education.
