Mini Symposium of Research Matchmaking for Joint Doctoral Program between the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM and the Faculty of Science Leiden University

Yogyakarta, May 8, 2025 — The Faculty of Pharmacy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), in collaboration with the Faculty of Science at Leiden University, successfully held a mini symposium as part of their joint degree program. The symposium aimed to facilitate research matchmaking and encourage the exchange of research interests between prospective students and researchers from both institutions, supporting the framework of the joint doctoral program.

The main purpose of this symposium was to provide a platform for aligning research directions, enabling potential PhD candidates to identify key research areas under the guidance of faculty from both universities. This approach ensures that students receive joint supervision that meets the academic and scientific standards of both UGM and Leiden University.

Prof. Dr.rer.nat. apt. Nanang Fakhrudin, M.Si. from UGM, and Prof. Dr. E.H.J. Danen from Leiden University represented their respective institutions in exploring new research ideas, particularly in the field of pharmaceutical sciences. These ideas are designed to support students enrolled in the program. The Joint Degree Program (JDP) is also part of the LPDP (Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education Agency) scholarship scheme, providing a platform for candidates to conduct their research and complete their doctoral programs.

“This joint doctoral program reflects our commitment to facilitating global academic collaboration while supporting students in achieving their research,” said Prof. Dr.rer.nat. Nanang Fakhrudin, M.Si., Apt. “Through this mini symposium, we hope to facilitate meaningful interactions between students, professors, and researchers from both institutions.”

The program also aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). By connecting institutions from different countries, this program promotes capacity building in research and education and supports sustainable academic partnerships on an international scale.

The Faculty of Pharmacy at UGM and the Faculty of Science at Leiden University are confident that this collaboration will result in innovative research while nurturing a new generation of scholars ready to tackle global challenges through interdisciplinary and collaborative approaches.
