Pharmacy UGM – The Faculty of Pharmacy and Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing (FKKMK) Universitas Gadjah Mada held the Opening Ceremony of the Summer Course 2024, titled “Exploring Indonesia Beauty,” on Monday, 15th July, 2024 via Zoom Meeting. This event offers interesting topics pertaining to pharmacy and health. The primary theme for this year is the Indonesian beauty business, especially as it relates to natural product cosmetics, covering essential knowledge, research and development, and business innovation within the cosmetic industry. Hundreds of international students from different countries with a wide range of backgrounds attended the event.
“This event is attended by around 136 participants, consisting of 70 domestic participants and 66 international participants from various countries, including Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Egypt, Iraq, and the United Kingdom (UK). Additionally, this event will also feature various beauty expert speakers from different countries,” stated Dr. Sci. apt. Rohmad Yudi Utomo, M.Sc., the Chairman of the Summer Course 2024.
The Summer Course 2024 will take place over three weeks, from July 15 to August 2, 2024, in a hybrid mode with several activities, including lecture series, field visits, and interactive discussions with beauty expert speakers from various countries. Participants will have the opportunity to join field visits to cosmetic companies in Indonesia, such as Herborist and Agradaya in Semarang, Central Java. Moreover, participants will enjoy short trips to Indonesian tourist spots, including Kembanglimus and Borobudur Temple.
In her opening speech, Wiratni Budhijanto, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., the Secretary of the Director of Partnership and Global Relations UGM, mentioned that Yogyakarta has a unique charm, including in the exploration of beauty. Yogyakarta has many natural ingredients that have the potential to be further developed in the cosmetics industry. Additionally present were Prof. Dr. Apt. Satibi, M.Si., Dean of the UGM Faculty of Pharmacy, and Dr. Lina Choridah, Sp. Rad (K), Vice Dean for Research and Development at Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing, Universiats Gadjah Mada. Dr. Lina Choridah, Sp. Rad (K), emphasized in her remarks that there are a lot of new and interesting issues related to the beauty industry in Indonesia. It is intended that this summer course will advance research and expertise in Indonesia’s beauty sector. Prof. Dr. Apt. Satibi, M.Si., agrees with Dr. dr. Lina Choridah, Sp. Rad (K) and also indicated interest in the subject matter of this summer course. “Through this summer course, we will revisit the formulation of cosmetic preparations, especially in Indonesia. This allows participants to discover differences between cosmetic formulations in Indonesia and other countries. It is hoped that this activity will enhance knowledge and open up many research opportunities in the beauty field,” emphasized Prof. Dr. Apt. Satibi, M.Si.
The Faculty of Pharmacy is demonstrating its dedication to developing higher education on a worldwide and international scale by working in partnership with the Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing, Universitas Gadjah Mada.
