The regional Asia-Pacific competition was organized by the International Pharmaceutical Students’ Federation Asia Pacific Regional Office (IPSF APRO) under the theme “Crucial Support Framework: Eliminating Gynaecological Cancer.”

Clinical Practice Event 2026 is an annual competition that provides pharmacy students across the Asia-Pacific region with an opportunity to develop and demonstrate their clinical skills. This year’s Clinical Skill Event focused on gynecological cancer, challenging participants to apply their pharmaceutical knowledge to health issues related to the prevention and management of gynecological cancer.

The competition consisted of two stages: the preliminary round and the final round. The preliminary round was held online via Zoom on 18 January 2026. During this stage, participants were required to answer 40 multiple-choice questions focusing on gynecological cancer within a 60-minute time limit.

Following the preliminary round, which involved 33 teams, five teams advanced to the final round. The final round was held online on Sunday, 19 April 2026, bringing together five finalist teams from different institutions across the Asia-Pacific region.

Team 05 BEM KMFA UGM, comprising Annisa Herdiana Putri from the IUP 2023 class as the team leader, Diandra Alfia Ilfa from the IUP 2023 class, and Yustisia Nur Rafidha Hestomo Putri from the B 2023 class, secured Second Runner-Up, or Third Place. MyPSA from Malaysia won First Place, while HMF AP from Institut Teknologi Bandung was named First Runner-Up.

The competition provided the students with an opportunity to deepen their understanding of gynecological cancer while strengthening their analytical and decision-making skills in the context of pharmaceutical care. The experience also contributed to the development of students’ clinical competencies in addressing health issues that require both clinical knowledge and a patient-centered approach.

Team 05’s participation in the Clinical Practice Event 2026 also aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The competition’s focus on gynecological cancer directly supports SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, particularly through the development of knowledge related to disease prevention and healthcare. Its focus on women’s health is also closely connected to SDG 5: Gender Equality, as reproductive health and the prevention and management of gynecological cancer are important aspects of women’s health and well-being. The development of students’ clinical competencies through case-based competition supports SDG 4: Quality Education by encouraging experiential learning and professional skills development. Furthermore, bringing together pharmacy students from across the Asia-Pacific region creates opportunities for knowledge and experience exchange across different countries and educational backgrounds, contributing to SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.

Team 05 BEM KMFA UGM’s achievement as Third Place in the Clinical Skill Event Competition Advanced Level at Clinical Practice Event 2026 adds to the achievements of UGM Pharmacy students in regional pharmaceutical competitions. The competition also provided the students with valuable opportunities to strengthen their clinical competencies and gain academic experience through engagement with pharmacy students from across the Asia-Pacific region. The achievement is expected to encourage UGM Pharmacy students to continue developing their knowledge, skills, and ideas in pharmacy while participating in academic and professional competitions at both national and international levels.
