Yogyakarta, August 15, 2026 — The Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), held a Guest Lecture for new students of the Doctor of Pharmacy and Master of Pharmacy Programs in 2026. Conducted in a hybrid format, the event took place on Saturday (15/8) at the 8th-floor Auditorium of the Advanced Pharmaceutical Science Learning Centre (APSLC), Faculty of Pharmacy UGM.
Featuring academics and researchers from Taiwan, the guest lecture provided students with an opportunity to broaden their perspectives on developments in pharmaceutical sciences, particularly in the development and quality control of traditional medicines and their integration with modern medicine.
The guest lecture featured Prof. Yuan Shiun Chang from the Department of Chinese Pharmaceutical Sciences, China Medical University, Taiwan, who delivered a presentation entitled “The Quality Control of TCM Herbs and Herbal Preparations in Taiwan.” Meanwhile, Prof. Yi-Chang Su, Director of the National Research Institute of Chinese Medicine (NRICM), Taiwan, presented “The Integration of Traditional Medicine & Modern Medicine—from the Anti-pandemic Experience of NRICM101.”
The session was moderated by Prof. Dr.rer.nat. apt. Triana Hertiani, M.Si. Through presentations and discussions, participants gained insights into approaches to quality control for herbal materials and preparations, as well as the potential for integrating traditional and modern medicine based on research experiences from Taiwan.
The guest lecture also contributed to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3, Good Health and Well-being, by strengthening knowledge on the development of safe and high-quality medicines; SDG 4, Quality Education, by providing opportunities for learning and knowledge exchange with international academics; and SDG 17, Partnerships for the Goals, by fostering academic and research collaboration and knowledge exchange between educational and research institutions in Indonesia and Taiwan.
Through this initiative, the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM continues to promote an academic environment that embraces global perspectives, international collaboration, and the advancement of pharmaceutical sciences to contribute to progress in healthcare and public health.
