Yogyakarta, Juli 31, 2026 — Students from the Faculty of Pharmacy at Gadjah Mada University (UGM) have once again achieved a proud accomplishment on the Asia-Pacific stage. Nabila Putri Herviana, a student in the Bachelor of Pharmacy program, successfully brought honor to her alma mater by winning the 2nd Runner-Up award in the Beginner category of the Compounding Event at the prestigious IPSF APRO Pharmaceuticals Science Event 2026.
This international competition is organized by the International Pharmaceutical Students’ Federation Asia Pacific Regional Office (IPSF APRO), an organization that serves as a platform for the professional development of pharmacy students throughout the Asia-Pacific region. This year, the competition specifically focuses on the theme “Next Generation Dermaceuticals: Precision, Safety, and Innovation.” Its primary focus is on testing participants’ mastery of pharmaceutical technology and their technical skills in compounding pharmaceutical preparations.
Nabila’s journey to the top was achieved through two competitive selection rounds. In the preliminary round, participants were tested on multiple-choice questions (MCQs) focusing on cosmetic dermatology, covering an understanding of formulation principles, safety standards, and formulation innovations. After advancing to the final round, the finalists faced a case study challenge that required sharp analytical skills, clinical problem-solving, and a high degree of precision in formulating accurate pharmaceutical solutions.
This Compounding Event is not merely a competition, but also a strategic platform for students to independently hone their technical skills and critical thinking abilities. This remarkable achievement demonstrates the ability of UGM Pharmacy students to apply the knowledge they have gained in the classroom to real-world, precise, and innovative pharmaceutical practice.
Nabila Putri Herviana’s success at the Asia-Pacific regional level serves as clear evidence of the commitment of the academic community at the UGM Faculty of Pharmacy to accelerating progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals. Active participation in these global competitions and educational initiatives directly contributes to the achievement of SDG 4 on Quality Education, in which aspiring young pharmacists are encouraged to continue strengthening their competencies.
Furthermore, the competition’s focus on designing a new generation of derma-cosmetic products that prioritize safety and innovation is fully aligned with the spirit of SDG 9 on Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure. The meticulous care taken in formulating these pharmaceutical preparations will ultimately lead to improved quality of health products for the general public, which is a key pillar of SDG 3 on Good Health and Well-being.
