UGM’s “Traditional Medicine Journal” Secures Q3 Scimago Ranking

Yogyakarta, April 21, 2026 – The Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) has reached another international milestone through its scientific journal, Majalah Obat Tradisional (MOT) or the Traditional Medicine Journal. According to the latest 2025 Scimago Journal Rank (SJR) data, the journal has officially entered the Quartile 3 (Q3) category with an SJR score of 0.22. This achievement solidifies MOT’s position as a credible scientific publication in the field of complementary and traditional medicine on a global scale.

This accomplishment is a clear testament to UGM Pharmacy’s commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being. By publishing high-quality research on natural medicine, MOT plays a vital role in providing a scientific database for the development of safe, effective, and affordable alternative treatments. This initiative is expected to reduce dependence on synthetic chemical drugs and strengthen healthcare systems based on local indigenous wisdom.

Furthermore, elevating the journal’s status to Q3 contributes to SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure. As an academic platform, MOT fosters sustainable innovation in transforming Indonesia’s biodiversity into high-value pharmaceutical products. Moving forward, the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM remains dedicated to improving journal governance and expanding international research collaborations to achieve higher rankings and create a tangible impact on global healthcare.
