Farmasi UGM – The Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) successfully hosted a workshop for high school (SMA) and madrasah aliyah (MA) teachers from the Yogyakarta region (08/10). Held at the Advanced Pharmaceutical Sciences Learning Center (APSLC), the event was part of a community service grant in collaboration with the local Association of Chemistry and Biology Subject Teachers (MGMP). A total of 71 participants, including 45 biology and 26 chemistry teachers, attended the session.
The workshop aimed to improve teachers’ abilities to deliver chemistry and biology lessons, addressing differences in understanding core topics. It focused on creating consistency in teaching topics such as chemical reactions, stoichiometry, molecular biology, and the role of DNA, RNA, and proteins in cells.
In addition, the event served as a link between high school and university-level education in these fields, particularly pharmaceutical chemistry and molecular biology. The workshop supported SDG 4: Quality Education by enhancing teaching quality and aligned with SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through collaboration with the MGMP teacher community.
