Pharmacy UGM – Students from the Professional Pharmacist Program at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), took real action regarding higher education tridarma in advancing public health literacy through a community service activity held at Taman Pintar Yogyakarta on April 27, 2025. The activity featured interactive educational approaches such as safe medication consultation to foster greater health awareness among the general public.
This initiative was part of the students’ professional field training and designed to reinforce the pharmacist’s vital role in health promotion. Guided by Dr. apt. Soni Siswanto and Dr. apt. Fita Rahmawati from the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM, the students collaborated actively with the management of Taman Pintar to create an inclusive and child-friendly learning space.
The event received an enthusiastic response from visitors, especially children and families. The use of popular science-based methods and friendly communication proved effective in delivering essential health messages. Children eagerly participated in fun educational sessions, while parents gained a clearer understanding of proper medication practices at home. For the students, this activity provided a valuable opportunity to apply their knowledge and engage directly with the community.
This community engagement activity supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by enhancing quality of life through health promotion, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by fostering collaboration between higher education institutions and public education centers. It is hoped that this program will serve as a model of educational synergy that builds a healthier and more health-aware society from an early age. (Rita/HumasFA)
