Sleman, September 6, 2025 – In line with the University Tri Dharma (Three Pillars of Higher Education), students from the UGM Faculty of Pharmacy’s Professional Pharmacist Study Program held a community service event themed “Recognizing Degenerative Diseases” on Friday, September 6, 2025. The event was held at the Multi-Purpose Building of Kepuh Permai Residential Area, Gondanglegi, Wedomartani, Ngemplak, Sleman, and was attended by dozens of local residents.
The activity aimed to raise public awareness of the importance of early detection and prevention of degenerative diseases, particularly diabetes mellitus. Dr. Djoko Santosa, S.Si., M.Si., as the main speaker, delivered comprehensive material covering various aspects of the disease, from risk factors and prevention methods to treatment options.
During the educational session, Dr. Djoko Santosa introduced the easy-to-apply CERDIK prevention method, which stands for: Check your health regularly, Eliminate cigarette smoke, Engage in regular physical activity, Eat a healthy and balanced diet, Get enough rest, and Manage stress. In addition, he also outlined short- and long-term treatment options, including the use of modern medicines and the potential of natural (herbal) treatments that can support health.
This community service activity is closely related to several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). First, it is in line with SDG 3, Good Health and Well-being, as it focuses on improving the health and well-being of the community through the prevention of non-communicable diseases. Second, this initiative supports SDG 4, Quality Education, by providing accessible and relevant health education to the community. Finally, this activity contributes to SDG 17, Partnerships for the Goals, by establishing collaboration between universities, students, and the community in a joint effort to improve community health.
