UGM Pharmacy Student Wins Second Place in Patient Counseling Competition at JPC X PHARMACOPE 2025

Yogyakarta, September 13, 2025 – Alyssa Izzatee Fauzi, a student from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), successfully won Second Place in the Patient Counseling Competition (PCC) at JPC X PHARMACOPE 2025, organized by the Indonesian Pharmacy Student Senate Association (ISMAFARSI) Joglosepur in collaboration with the Pharmacy Student Association (HMF) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS). The competition served as a platform for pharmacy students to enhance their communication, empathy, and patient education skills through case-based counseling simulations relevant to real-world pharmaceutical practice.

Carrying the theme “Cardiovascular Diseases,” the event emphasized the crucial role of pharmacists in addressing the growing burden of non-communicable diseases, particularly cardiovascular diseases, the leading cause of death worldwide. Through a series of online preliminary rounds and an offline final held at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, UNS, participants were challenged to demonstrate ethical communication, provide evidence-based pharmaceutical counseling, and propose holistic approaches to improve patient outcomes.

This achievement aligns with the advancement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3), Quality Education (SDG 4), and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17). By strengthening professional communication skills and fostering collaboration among universities, this competition contributes to improving healthcare quality and developing human resources in the pharmaceutical field.

Alyssa’s accomplishment reflects the excellence and dedication of UGM Pharmacy students in responding to contemporary health challenges. Through active participation in national and international competitions, the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM continues to affirm its commitment to producing pharmacists who are not only academically competent but also globally competitive, ethical, and driven by the spirit of sustainability.
