Yogyakarta, October 31, 2025 — The Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Gadjah Mada, welcomed Dr. Joanna Harnett, Associate Professor at the Sydney Pharmacy School, Faculty of Medicine and Health, University of Sydney, Australia, as part of a continuing effort to enhance international academic and research collaboration in Traditional and Complementary Medicines (T&CM) focusing on safety, efficacy, and integration into formal healthcare systems.
During her visit, Dr. Harnett delivered a guest lecture on October 31, 2025, engaged in research discussions with academic staff and researchers from the Departments of Pharmaceutical Biology, Pharmacology, and Clinical Pharmacy, and conducted field visits to Dr. Sardjito General Hospital and Hortus Medicus Clinic Tawangmangu to observe traditional medicine practices in Indonesia’s healthcare context. Additionally, the visit aims to explore potential fellowship and joint research programs planned for 2026, including researcher and student exchanges as well as community-based research initiatives.
This collaboration supports the global pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) by promoting evidence-based natural medicine research; SDG 4 (Quality Education) through academic capacity building and international learning exchange; and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by fostering long-term cooperation between Universitas Gadjah Mada and the University of Sydney.
Through this academic engagement, the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM reaffirms its commitment to advancing scientific evidence, education, and policy in the field of traditional and complementary medicines for the betterment of global health.
