Yogyakarta, 28 October 2025 – The Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), welcomed Prof. Illa Tea, a professor specializing in analytical chemistry with a focus on stable isotopes, from the Institut des Sciences Analytiques (ISA) Lyon, France. This visit is part of the PHC Nusantara program, aimed at enhancing research collaboration and academic exchange between Indonesia and France.
ISA Lyon is affiliated with the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), Claude Bernard University Lyon 1, and École normale supérieure de Lyon (ENS de Lyon). During the visit, Prof. Illa Tea was accompanied by two ISA researchers, Anthony Anchisi and Frédéric Schiets, to conduct a series of scientific activities at the Faculty of Pharmacy, UGM.
The visit program included a guest lecture, research discussions with UGM’s research teams, laboratory tours, and field visits. On 27 October 2025, Prof. Illa Tea met with the leadership of the Faculty of Pharmacy to discuss potential research collaborations and long-term partnership opportunities. This meeting also marked the beginning of a research collaboration between ISA Lyon and UGM’s Faculty of Pharmacy for 2025–2026, with a minimum target of producing two international scientific publications.
Notably, the collaborative research received in-kind funding support from ISA Lyon, reflecting the commitment of both institutions to promote sustainable research in analytical chemistry and pharmaceutical sciences. As a follow-up, a reciprocal visit to ISA Lyon is planned in 2026, funded by PHC Nusantara and ISA Lyon, to strengthen synergy and research networks between the two institutions.
As part of the academic agenda, on 28 October 2025, Prof. Illa Tea delivered a guest lecture titled “Origin and Authenticity of Bioproducts by Isotopic Analysis” for students and faculty members of UGM. The lecture discussed the application of stable isotope analysis to determine the origin and authenticity of bioproducts, a cutting-edge approach with significant potential in pharmacy, biotechnology, and quality control of natural products. The session provided participants with in-depth knowledge of isotopic analysis technology and its applications in modern pharmaceutical research.
Through this Visiting Professor program, the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM demonstrates a strong commitment to developing cross-border collaborative research based on advanced science and technology. This activity also contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) through enhanced academic capacity, SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) through strengthened research and analytical technology innovation, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through international collaboration between Indonesia and France in science and pharmacy.
