UGM Faculty of Pharmacy Participates in the 2025 Jogja Culture & Wellness Festival

Yogyakarta, 17 November 2025 — The Faculty of Pharmacy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) took an active role in the 2025 Jogja Culture & Wellness Festival (JCW Festival), held on Saturday, 15 November 2025, at Mustika Hotel. This year’s festival embraces the philosophical theme “Selarasing Urip: Wiraga, Wirasa, Wirama,” inviting the public to rediscover harmony between body, emotion, and the rhythm of everyday life. UGM’s participation underscores the faculty’s commitment to promoting Indonesia’s rich biological heritage as a foundation for modern health and wellness.

Yogyakarta once again becomes a haven for restoration, a place to pause, breathe deeply, and celebrate a journey toward a more balanced way of living. Over the course of a full month, the festival offers a holistic experience featuring locally based healthy cuisine, sustainable and eco-friendly lifestyle practices, wellness sessions and energy healing, as well as cultural performances that culminate in a warm, community-centered closing celebration.

On 15 November 2025, from 08.00 to 16.00 WIB, the UGM Faculty of Pharmacy booth became one of the festival’s main attractions, presenting an in-depth exploration of Indonesian Natural Medicines, Native Spices or Botanicals, and books related to traditional medicine. Visitors received scientific insights into the therapeutic potential of spices, ingredients long known for their culinary use but deeply rooted in traditional and biomedical healing.

The booth’s educational and consultation activities were led directly by two lecturers, Fathul Muin, M.Pharm., Apt., and Dr. Djoko Santosa, S.Si., M.Si., supported by the faculty’s Public Relations team. Through these interactive sessions, the Faculty of Pharmacy demonstrated how Indonesia’s extraordinary biodiversity can be transformed through scientific research and modern pharmaceutical technology to improve community health and well-being.

UGM’s involvement in the festival strongly aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Educational efforts on natural medicines and local wellness practices directly advance SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being by promoting health literacy and nature-based therapeutics. The exploration and presentation of Indonesia’s medicinal botanicals support SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production by encouraging wise and sustainable use of local natural resources. Additionally, the faculty’s focus on research and innovation in natural products contributes to SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure by strengthening national research capacity.

The UGM Faculty of Pharmacy booth received the distinguished honor of a visit from Gusti Kanjeng Ratu Bendara (Bendara) and Gusti Raden Ajeng Nurastuti Wijareni. Their presence further strengthened the synergy between Javanese cultural values and scientific innovation in health, while supporting ongoing efforts in conservation and the sustainable utilization of Indonesia’s natural resources.
