Yogyakarta, October 5, 2025 – The Faculty of Pharmacy at Universitas Gadjah Mada conducted a community service program targeting children and disability communities in Yogyakarta. The activity carried the theme “Optimizing Knowledge on Storing and Disposing of Unused and Expired Medications in Disability Communities in Yogyakarta.”
The event took place at the 8th-floor Auditorium of the APLSC Building, Faculty of Pharmacy UGM, and was attended by members of disability communities from various regions in Yogyakarta. The program began with an opening session and the completion of a questionnaire related to participants’ knowledge about the proper storage and disposal of medications.
Next, participants received an educational presentation through a learning video on how to safely store and dispose of unused and expired medications. The activity continued with an interactive Q&A session, providing participants the opportunity to discuss directly with the implementation team from the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM.
In her remarks, Mrs. apt. Niken Nur Widyakusuma, S.Farm., M.Sc., expressed her appreciation to all participants for their enthusiasm and participation. She hopes this activity can raise public awareness, particularly within disability communities, about maintaining safety and health through responsible medication management.
The event concluded with a group photo session as a closing and a symbol of togetherness between the academic community of the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM and the disability communities in Yogyakarta. Through this program, the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM reaffirms its commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially Goal 3, Good Health and Well-being, and Goal 10, Reduced Inequalities. By educating disability communities on the safe storage and disposal of medications, the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM strives to enhance public health literacy while ensuring that vulnerable groups gain equal access to information and learning for maintaining personal and environmental health.
