Yogyakarta, 24 November 2025 — The Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Gadjah Mada, reaffirms its commitment to building a healthy and sustainable campus environment through the development of innovative approaches to pharmaceutical and laboratory waste management.
This program aims to ensure that all educational and research activities within the faculty are managed safely and responsibly. Through collaboration among lecturers, administrative staff, and students, the Faculty of Pharmacy has implemented an integrated waste-processing system that includes proper waste segregation, the use of environmentally friendly neutralization technologies, and disposal procedures that adhere to safety standards.
This initiative also supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) by minimizing exposure risks from hazardous waste; SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) through the management of laboratory liquid waste to prevent contamination of water sources; and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) by promoting laboratory practices that are efficient, safe, and sustainability-oriented.
The Faculty of Pharmacy hopes that this initiative can serve as a replicable model for waste management in other higher education institutions and further strengthen UGM’s role as a pioneering campus in advancing science aligned with the principles of sustainable development.
