Yogyakarta, 20 November 2025 — The Faculty of Pharmacy at Universitas Gadjah Mada has installed two additional solar-powered streetlights (Penerangan Jalan Umum Tenaga Surya/PJUTS) in the area surrounding the Faculty Mosque as part of its commitment to creating a more energy-efficient and sustainable campus environment.
These streetlights operate by harnessing solar energy, which is captured through photovoltaic panels and stored in batteries to automatically power LED lights at night. With their autonomous system and high energy efficiency, the units offer low operational costs, simple installation, and minimal maintenance needs.
The installation of the two PJUTS units is expected to enhance safety and comfort for the academic community, particularly in the evenings when religious activities and student organization events are still ongoing. This initiative also reinforces the implementation of sustainability principles within the Faculty by reducing the use of conventional electricity and promoting renewable energy solutions.
This effort supports several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including affordable and clean energy (SDG 7) through the adoption of solar power, sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11) by improving campus safety, and climate action (SDG 13) through carbon footprint reduction. The initiative demonstrates the Faculty of Pharmacy’s commitment to actively contributing to global sustainability objectives.
