Yogyakarta, March 8, 2025 – Students from the Professional Pharmacist Study Program (PSPA) at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), contributed to community service by providing education to PKK in RT 04 Kadirojo I, Purwomartani, Kalasan, Sleman, Yogyakarta. This activity aimed to educate and provide insights to the public regarding various herbs that can be consumed as health-benefiting beverages.

The education on the benefits of herbal drinks was delivered by representatives of UGM PSPA Pharmacy students and Dr. apt. Indah Purwantini, M.Si., as supervising lecturer. The material covered several common household herbs, such as ginger, kencur (aromatic ginger), turmeric, temulawak (Javanese ginger), and long pepper, along with their respective health benefits. The information was packaged in leaflets distributed to the participants. Throughout the session, the participants were highly enthusiastic, actively asking questions and sharing their experiences in using herbal drinks to address various ailments.

This activity aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), directly supporting SDG 3, Good Health and Well-being by raising community awareness about natural health options and promoting disease prevention through herbal drink consumption. Furthermore, this initiative also contributes to SDG 4, Quality Education by disseminating relevant and practical health knowledge to the community, while providing valuable learning experiences for students in community service. Finally, the collaboration between the university (students and lecturers) and the local community (PKK) is a concrete example of SDG 17, Partnerships for the Goals, which is crucial for sustainable development.
