Yogyakarta, 8 January 2026 – The Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), organized a Leadership Management Workshop as a strategic effort to strengthen the leadership and managerial capacity of unit leaders, particularly Heads of Study Programs, Heads of Departments, and Coordinators of Supporting Units within the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM. The workshop was held on Thursday (8/1) at the Auditorium on the 8th Floor of the APSLC Building, Faculty of Pharmacy UGM.
The roles of Heads of Study Programs and Heads of Departments are considered highly strategic in ensuring the quality of education, research, and community service, as well as in managing human resources and making academic and managerial decisions. Amid dynamic regulatory changes, increasing institutional accountability, and accelerated organizational transformation, unit leaders are required to possess adaptive, effective, and integrity-driven leadership and management competencies.
In addition to structural and regulatory challenges, unit leaders also face the dynamics of managing a multigenerational workforce, particularly with the growing proportion of Generation Z (Gen Z) personnel. The characteristics of this generation, marked by a strong orientation toward work flexibility and work–life balance, present both opportunities and challenges in terms of integrity, organizational loyalty, and long-term workforce resilience. These conditions call for leadership approaches that go beyond administrative functions to become transformative, communicative, and value-based.
Through this workshop, the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM emphasized the importance of values-based leadership, strengthening cross-generational teamwork, and constructively managing differences in work styles and expectations. The program also discussed best practices in structural leadership, lessons learned from real leadership experiences within the faculty, and the strengthening of reward and punishment mechanisms, including discipline enforcement and the management of performance delays in line with contemporary organizational dynamics.
The Leadership Management Workshop featured Prof. Dr. Didi Achjari, S.E., M.Com., Ak., CA as the main speaker in the field of leadership and organizational management, who shared strategic insights on effective leadership and accountable unit governance. In addition, Prof. Dr. Eng. Kuwat Triyana, M.Si. served as a speaker in the session on research innovation and downstreaming, emphasizing the role of academic leaders in fostering a culture of research excellence, innovation, and the utilization of research outcomes to generate broader impact for society and industry.
Through the implementation of this workshop, the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM expects unit leaders to enhance their leadership and managerial competencies, make strategic decisions, manage conflicts professionally, and drive organizational performance oriented toward quality and sustainability. This activity also reaffirms the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM’s commitment to building strong academic leadership as a foundation for achieving the vision of the faculty and the university.
This activity is also aligned with the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM’s commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) through the strengthening of high-quality academic leadership; SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) through the creation of a healthy, productive, and integrity-driven work environment; and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) by reinforcing the role of academic leaders in promoting innovation and research downstreaming.
