The Associate for Faculty Affairs of College of Pharmacy University of South Florida Professor Yashwant Pathak, MD., M.Sc. gave a visit to Faculty of Pharmacy Universitas Gadjah Mada on Tuesday, July 18, 2017. Besides delivering a lecture entitled “Nano biomaterials for Ophthalmic Drug Delivery Systems with Special Focus on Age-related Macular Degeneration”, Professor Pathak also gave a workshop on academic internationalisation and curriculum development to the faculty members held in the Meeting Room 2nd Fl. Unit I Faculty of Pharmacy UGM at 1 pm. The workshop was detailed on “Cracking the New ACPE Guidelines for International ACPE Certification for College of Pharmacy”.
Appointed as the moderator, the Head of Unit of International Affairs Faculty of Pharmacy UGM Dr Susi Ari Kristina gave a brief introduction of Professor Pathak’s profile. Professor Pathak began the workshop by introducing his affiliation in University of Florida and sharing the current pharmacy field situation. He stole the attention by mentioning that the pharmacy trend was currently shifting to Clinical Pharmacy and was very advanced that the role of pharmacists could have been replaced by a drug dispensing machine. “That was one of the reasons we need to raise the standard for the education of pharmacists,” Professor Pathak emphasized.
He then pointed out of the profile of Accreditation Council of Pharmacy Education (ACPE) which is based in Chicago, USA. ACPE’s International Service Program (ISP) provides assistance to international stakeholders who seek guidance related to quality assurance and advancement of pharmacy education. The mission of the ISP is to promote, assure, and advance the quality of pharmacy education internationally to improve patient care through safe and effective medication use. He went through one by one of the guidelines and the steps to get ACPE certification. Lastly, he concluded, “it is easy to get the ACPE certification, the key is compliance with the commitment you made.”
