Malang, May 18, 2025 – A delegation of students from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), achieved an impressive accomplishment at the national competition PHARMALAND 2025, organized by the Student Association of the Pharmacy Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, Islamic University of Malang (UNISMA). In the final round of the Scientific Writing Competition (LKTI), held offline at UNISMA’s Al-Asy’ari Round Building, the Pharmacy UGM team secured 2nd place nationally, surpassing dozens of participants from various renowned universities across Indonesia.
The team, led by Devi Vita Sari with members Dita Wulandari and Fadillah Rahma Ranita, presented a relevant and applicable scientific theme on exploring natural ingredients for treating skin diseases. Their work was recognized for its originality of ideas, research quality, and well-structured, systematic presentation before a panel of judges consisting of academics and pharmaceutical practitioners.
PHARMALAND 2025 is an annual competition series with this year carrying the theme “Get a Fantastic Experience in Pharmacy Adventure,” open to university and high school students across Indonesia. The event includes three main competitions: the LKTI for university students, the Pharmacy Science Olympiad (OPSIFARM) for high school/vocational school students, and an Educational Poster Competition for both student categories.
In the LKTI category, participants were challenged to explore the potential of Indonesian medicinal plants in pharmaceutical innovation, ranging from preformulation studies and dosage development to packaging design. The Pharmacy UGM team’s work advanced to the final round after passing a rigorous manuscript selection process and was recognized as one of the best entries nationwide as the 2nd winner.
“We are proud to represent UGM at this national event. It’s not just about winning, but also about our contribution as pharmacy students to the advancement of pharmaceutical sciences rooted in local wisdom,” said Devi, the team leader.
This competition serves as a strategic platform for promoting collaboration and scientific innovation among pharmacy students. It also strengthens the role of educational institutions in raising public awareness about the safe and effective use of natural ingredients. This achievement reinforces the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM’s status as a leading institution in pharmaceutical sciences in Indonesia. The team’s active participation and success are expected to inspire other students to continue creating and innovating.
This accomplishment not only reflects the academic excellence of Pharmacy UGM students but also represents a tangible contribution to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) through innovative research based on natural ingredients for public health.
