Yogyakarta, February 23, 2025 – As a concrete manifestation of their commitment to public health, students from the Pharmacist Professional Study Program (PSPA) of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) Faculty of Pharmacy, accompanied by their supervising lecturers, successfully organized a health education and free health check-up event. The event took place on Sunday, February 23, 2025, at RM Parangtritis, targeting members of the Dharma Wanita Persatuan and retired employees of SMA Negeri 1 Bantul.

The outreach focused on the crucial topic of drug and cosmetic safety, especially for pregnant women. Lecturers and students from the pharmacists’ professional study program provided education on how to choose safe cosmetics, avoiding chemicals potentially harmful to the fetus, and discussed treatment options and principles for safe medication use during pregnancy and breastfeeding period.

In addition to the educational session, free basic health check-up services were also provided, including body weight, blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, and uric acid levels. This initiative aimed to raise public awareness about the importance of maintaining health, detect potential health problems early, and equip participants with relevant information for preventing and managing health issues.

This community service activity aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By providing free health services and education on drug and cosmetic safety, this initiative directly supports SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being). The focus on maternal and child health education reflects efforts to enhance SDG 4 (Quality Education) in the health sector. The active participation of students in this program also demonstrates a commitment to SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), fostering collaboration between educational institutions and the community. Finally, by empowering the community through health information and early detection, this activity also contributes to achieving SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), particularly in access to health information.
