Yogyakarta, 21 November 2025 — Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) achieved an outstanding accomplishment by being named the Overall Champion of the 2025 National Mathematics and Natural Sciences Olympiad (ONMIPA). The prestigious competition, organized by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, was held at Universitas Padjadjaran, Bandung, from 16–20 November 2025. This achievement marks a historic milestone for UGM, as it is the first time the university has secured the overall championship after consistently finishing as runner-up in previous years.
At the national-level competition, UGM sent 19 top students to compete in four disciplines: physics, biology, mathematics, and chemistry. The students delivered exceptional performances, leading UGM to win a total of 14 medals, consisting of 6 gold medals, 1 silver medal, 6 bronze medals, and 1 honorable mention. ONMIPA 2025 was participated in by 251 contestants from 96 universities across Indonesia, making it one of the most prestigious national science competitions.
The Faculty of Pharmacy UGM contributed significantly to this achievement through the university’s sole silver medal. The medal was won by Kevin Lensrich, a 2022 cohort student of the Faculty of Pharmacy, in the biology category. This achievement was the result of a rigorous multi-stage selection process, starting from the university level, followed by regional selection, and culminating at the national level. Kevin expressed his gratitude and pride in representing UGM and the Faculty of Pharmacy at the national competition, while also emphasizing the vital support of his academic supervisors and the faculty’s strong academic culture in fostering excellence.
UGM’s success as the Overall Champion of ONMIPA 2025 also reflects the university’s and faculty’s tangible contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This achievement aligns with SDG 4 (Quality Education) through the provision of competitive and high-quality higher education, SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) through the strengthening of basic science research as a foundation for innovation, and SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) through the advancement of biology and pharmaceutical sciences that contribute to public health development.
