Pharmacy Student of Faculty Pharmacy at Universitas Gadjah Mada Wins 1st Place at Pharmacovent UHAMKA 2025 Essay Competition

Jakarta, June 13, 2025 – Muhammad Nino Irwana (21/481969/FA/13199), a 2021 batch student from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), has achieved a remarkable feat by securing 1st Place in the Pharmacovent 2025 Scientific Essay competition, organized by Universitas Muhammadiyah Prof. Dr. HAMKA (UHAMKA). This national-level competition was held online from May 28 to June 13, 2025, serving as a crucial platform to unearth innovative ideas from students in the pharmaceutical field.

In his final presentation on June 14, 2025, Nino captivated the judges with his topic: “Utilization of Sustained Release Microarray Patch for Sepsis Infection Treatment Due to Antibiotic Resistance.” His essay proposed a revolutionary solution using microarray patch technology as a non-invasive method for controlled antibiotic delivery, specifically for sepsis cases caused by resistant bacteria. This approach was highly regarded for its potential to enhance therapeutic effectiveness, minimize side effects, and for its promising future clinical implementation.

This achievement is highly relevant to several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), as it focuses on innovative approaches to treat infections and combat antibiotic resistance, a global health threat; SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), through the development of new pharmaceutical technology like microarray patches, contributing to research and innovation infrastructure; and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), by encouraging cross-disciplinary collaboration and capacity building in addressing health challenges.

“This win is a huge motivation for me to continue developing innovative ideas in pharmacy. I hope this concept can be a first step towards a tangible solution for the challenge of antibiotic resistance,” said Muhammad Nino Irwana.

Nino’s success reflects the research and innovation capacity of UGM Pharmacy students in making tangible contributions to global health challenges, while also inspiring the younger generation to continue creating and innovating for the advancement of science and public health.
