Yogyakarta, December 13, 2025 – The Faculty of Pharmacy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held a workshop on “Perfume Making with a Pharmaceutical and Cosmetic Approach” as part of the Nitilaku Exhibition for UGM’s 76th Anniversary, which took place at the UGM Innovation and Creativity Center (GIK). This workshop aims to provide scientific understanding and practical skills related to perfume making, starting from an introduction to the history of perfume, the concept of aroma pyramids, to the formulation of Eau de Toilette (EDT) type perfumes that are safe and meet quality standards. This activity featured facilitator apt. Indra Gunawan, M.Sc., who guided participants in understanding the science, safety of ingredients, and creativity in perfume making.
This workshop was attended by pharmacy students, cosmetic SME entrepreneurs, perfume enthusiasts, and the general public. The series of activities included theoretical presentations, demonstrations, and hands-on practice in perfume making, including mixing techniques, homogenization, and the aging process. Participants also gained knowledge about perfume quality standards, good manufacturing practices (GMP) principles, and the application of laboratory safety protocols to produce high-quality and safe perfume products.
Through this activity, the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM contributes to supporting the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) through strengthening science-based literacy and skills, SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by encouraging business opportunities and innovation in the local cosmetics and perfume sector, and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) through education on perfume formulation that meets safety and quality standards. This workshop is expected to produce competitive and sustainable perfume product innovations.
