Pharmacy UGM – The Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), held a guest lecture titled “Business Development of Biopharmaceutical Products: Case Studies & Best Practices in Indonesia” on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at the 8th-floor Auditorium of the APSLC Building. The event featured Christian Karol Saputra, S.Farm., Apt., M.Biotek., Etana Innovation Center Manager at PT Etana Biotechnologies Indonesia, as the keynote speaker.
Christian shared insights into the growth of Indonesia’s biopharmaceutical industry, using case studies and best practices implemented by PT Etana Biotechnologies Indonesia. He highlighted the importance of strategic collaborations, challenges in production and distribution processes, and the vast opportunities for innovation within the national pharmaceutical sector.
He also discussed PT Etana’s journey as a local biopharmaceutical producer who became the first mRNA vaccine manufacturer in Southeast Asia. Emphasizing the company’s commitment to halal-certified products, Christian outlined how strong business strategies and cross-sector partnerships have been pivotal in navigating industry challenges.
This guest lecture aimed to broaden students’ understanding of the dynamics within the biopharmaceutical industry and inspire them to contribute to scientific advancements and health innovation.
The event aligns with the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM’s commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by improving access to quality pharmaceutical products, and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) by strengthening local industry capabilities through biotechnological innovation.
