Pharmacy UGM – On Wednesday (February 19), the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held the Grand Launching of the Asy-Syifa Mosque along with a Pre-Ramadan Lecture. This significant event marked a vital step in strengthening spiritual values within the academic environment and officially inaugurated the Asy-Syifa Mosque as a hub for religious activities within the Faculty.
The event commenced with an opening speech by the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM, Prof. Dr. apt. Satibi, M.Si., who expressed gratitude for the successful completion of the mosque’s construction. In his remarks, Prof. Satibi emphasized that the mosque is not only a place of worship but also a space for fostering community, strengthening moral values, and enhancing the spiritual well-being of the academic community. “Asy-Syifa Mosque is envisioned to be an inclusive and welcoming center for religious activities, supporting the development of students with integrity and global competitiveness,” he stated.
Following this, Dr. Arie Sujito, S.Sos., M.Si., UGM Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, Community Service, and Alumni, delivered his speech, commending the Faculty’s initiative in establishing a proper worship facility. He highlighted the mosque’s role in cultivating character and fostering community values within the campus. Dr. Arie also encouraged the entire academic community to utilize the mosque as a space to strengthen humanitarian values and social solidarity.
The event proceeded with a communal prayer led by Ust. Syatori Abdurrauf, followed by the congregational Dzuhur prayer. After the prayer, Ust. Syatori delivered a lecture titled “Welcoming Ramadan Wholeheartedly”. In his sermon, he urged the attendees to prepare themselves spiritually and emotionally for the holy month of Ramadan by strengthening faith, increasing acts of worship, and fostering social ties within the campus and broader community. He emphasized the importance of using Ramadan as a time for self-reflection and character-building.
This event symbolized the synergy between campus facility development and the reinforcement of spiritual values, offering a space for the academic community to thrive in harmony between knowledge and faith.
The initiative also aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) by promoting well-being, character education, and social integration within the campus environment.
