JMKI Faculty of Pharmacy UGM Holds “BUKBERKISAH” Iftar Event with Nurul Haq Madania Orphanage

Pharmacy UGM – On Saturday, March 23rd, the Indonesian Health Students Network (Jaringan Mahasiswa Kesehatan Indonesia/JMKI) of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Gadjah Mada, held a heartwarming iftar event titled “BUKBERKISAH: Buka Bersama Berbagi Kisah Penuh Hikmah” at the Nurul Haq Madania Orphanage. The event aimed to spread joy and strengthen social bonds during the holy month of Ramadan by sharing stories and experiences with the children of the orphanage.

The event began with welcoming speeches by the Head of JMKI (Chavia Elvaretta) and the Event Coordinator (Zulvana Raisya), followed by an inspiring remarks from Mr. Hazmin Khatim, a representative of the orphanage. The atmosphere grew livelier as the children engaged in an interactive educational session on dzikr (remembrance of God), along with fun games and ice-breaking activities that fostered warmth and togetherness.

A highlight of the event was the symbolic handover of donations collected through the “JMKI Berbagi” fundraising campaign, which ran from February 22 to March 15, 2025. The Head of JMKI’s Community Service Department personally handed over the contributions to the orphanage, showcasing the students’ genuine spirit of solidarity and social concern.

One of the most moving moments of the event was the “Tree of Hope” activity. The children were invited to write down their dreams on paper leaves and hang them on a symbolic tree, representing the belief that aspirations can grow and bear fruit when nurtured with knowledge and strong faith—just like a tree that thrives with deep roots and a sturdy trunk.

As the call to Maghrib prayer approached, the committee distributed meals and drinks for iftar. The joy was palpable as the children enjoyed the food, shared stories with the students, and joined together in Maghrib prayer to close the event.

Through BUKBERKISAH, JMKI Faculty of Pharmacy UGM contributes directly to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 2 (Zero hunger),  SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by fostering mental and spiritual health, and SDG 4 (Quality Education) by enhancing social and religious literacy beyond the academic realm.
