Faculty Senate

Based on the Majelis Wali Amanat (MWA) Regulation Number 4/SK/MWA/2014 regarding the Organization and Governance of Universitas Gadjah Mada, Chapter I (General Provisions), Article 1, Paragraph 11: the Faculty Senate (SF) is the body authorized to interpret and implement MWA policies and regulations within the Faculty environment.

Membership

The Faculty Senate consists of:

• The Dean and Vice Deans;

• Active Professors;

• Heads of Departments;

• Representatives of Non-Professor Faculty Members;

• Representatives of Educational Staff;

• Other members as stipulated by Rectoral Regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Faculty Senate is tasked with:

• Formulating Faculty plans and policies in both academic and non-academic fields;

• Assessing the academic achievement, ethics, competence, and personal integrity of faculty members;

• Formulating norms and benchmarks for Faculty operations and evaluating the performance of Faculty leadership;

• Providing opinions and recommendations to ensure the smooth management of the Faculty;

• Providing considerations regarding the proposed Faculty Annual Work Plan and Budget;

• Granting approval for proposed curriculum changes and providing considerations for Faculty administration;

• Conducting the screening of Dean candidates and nominating them to the Rector;

• Providing considerations for Vice Dean candidates proposed by the Dean;

• Granting approval for the appointment of Professors and recommendations for academic rank and position promotions;

• Performing other duties as stipulated in MWA Regulations and/or Rectoral Regulations.

Commissions and Meetings

In carrying out its duties, the Faculty Senate establishes commissions. The Dean and Vice Deans are excluded from commission membership. These commissions are:

• Commission I: Academic Affairs, Research, and Community Service.

• Commission II: Human Resources, Finance, and Ethics.

For the 2021–2026 term, the Faculty Senate consists of 27 members. The Senate holds a Plenary Meeting once a month and an annual Work Meeting at the end of each year; Special Plenary Meetings may be convened under specific circumstances.
