Faculty of Pharmacy UGM Together with SMA N 1 Bantul and Puskesmas Pundong Held Community Service at Sorotopo Village

Bantul, May 5, 2025 – Lecturers and educators from Department of Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacy, Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) participate in community service activities held in Dusun Sorotopo, Padukuhan Biro, Kelurahan Seloharjo, Kecamatan Pundong, Kabupaten Bantul. This community services are cooperation with partners through the Sabayouth Health Care 2025 program by SMA N 1 Bantul with the tagline “Health for All, Care for Each Other.” This activity is held on Saturday, 10 May 2025 is a form of collaboration between higher education institutions and high schools in an effort to raise awareness of public health services.

The activities organized included a community fun walk, asic health check ups and free medical consultations, fun games, and distribution of grocery packages to the local community. The team from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), played an active role in the basic health check up activities, which involved measuring blood pressure, conducting blood tests, and providing direct health consultations to the community. After the examinations, the team also distributed necessary medications to patients, accompanied by Communication, Information, and Education (CIE) sessions on the proper, safe and effective use of medicines. This initiative served as a tangible form of higher education institutions’ engagement in making a direct contribution to the community through the application of pharmaceutical knowledge.

The initiative received very positive responses from the residents of Dusun Sorotopo, especially considering the need for accessible and high quality healthcare services in the area. Dr. apt. Purwaningsih, representing the Department of Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacy, Faculty of Pharmacy UGM, expressed that the collaboration between UGM, SMAN 1 Bantul, and Puskesmas Pundong served as an effective partnership model. This collaboration not only improved access to healthcare services but also provided a valuable learning experience for students by allowing them to directly observe and engage with community health issues. It is hoped that community service programs like this can continue regularly to improve the quality of life and public health in a sustainable manner.

This activity aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 on ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages, SDG 4 on quality education through the implementation of pharmaceutical knowledge in real community settings, and SDG 11 on build inclusive sustainable healthy community in Kapanewon Pundong, and SDG 17 which encourages partnerships between educational institutions to achieve common goals.
