Faculty of Pharmacy UGM Participates in Health Social Service with WALUBI at Lumbini Park, Borobudur Temple

Magelang, May 10-11, 2025 —As part of their ongoing commitment to community service, several lecturers and students from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), participated in a free medical service event held at Lumbini Park, Borobudur Temple, Central Java. The two-day event, held on Saturday and Sunday, May 10-11, 2025, successfully served over 7,500 individuals from surrounding areas.

Coordinated by Dr. apt. Soni Siswanto, M.Biomed, along with other lecturers and students from the Bachelor of Pharmacy program, the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM team conducted various activities related to the management of medicines, medical devices, and consumable medical supplies (BMHP). The initiative began with prescription screening and the preparation of pharmaceutical products, which were later distributed to patients and community members attending the Vesak Day celebration. Additionally, the team provided medication accompanied by Communication, Information, and Education (CIE) sessions to promote the safe and rational use of medicines, ensuring the community maximized the benefits of the pharmaceutical services offered.

This community service initiative was organized by the Representative of Indonesian Buddhists (WALUBI) as part of the Vesak Day 2569 BE/2025 celebration. The event was supported by multiple organizations, including the UGM Faculty of Pharmacy, the Central Java Provincial Government, the Army Health Center (Puskesad), Navy Health Service (Diskesal), Air Force Health Service (Diskesau), Police Medical and Health Center (Pusdokkes Polri), Magelang District Health Office, RST Soedjono Magelang, Dr. Sardjito General Hospital Yogyakarta, and several other institutions.

The community’s enthusiasm was evident in the long queues throughout the event. Participants began by undergoing preliminary health screenings, such as blood pressure checks and weight measurements. They then received medical consultations from general practitioners and specialists, covering services such as general medicine, eye care, dental care, and minor surgical procedures. This initiative aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3, which emphasizes good health and well-being for all ages. It also supports SDG 11, fostering inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable communities by improving access to healthcare near the Borobudur Temple, a national cultural heritage site. Additionally, the event reflects SDG 17, which emphasizes strengthening partnerships for sustainable development through collaboration between educational institutions, government agencies, and healthcare providers to ensure equitable healthcare services for all.

Through this program, the organizers aimed to provide comprehensive healthcare services—ranging from promotion and prevention to early detection and treatment—without financial barriers for the community. (Fathul/HumasFA)
