Faculty of Pharmacy UGM Holds Public Speaking Workshop to Enhance Academic Presentation Skills

Yogyakarta, September 30, 2025 — The Graduate Program of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), organized a workshop entitled “Public Speaking: Speak & Shine, The Art of Creating Engaging Presentations and Building Confidence.” This activity was designed to equip students with effective communication skills as well as the ability to deliver academic presentations compellingly and confidently.

The workshop featured two distinguished speakers. Prof. Dra. R. A. Yayi Suryo Prabandari, M.Sc., Ph.D., delivered a session on “Effective Communication Skills for Academic Presentations.” In this session, participants were expected to gain an understanding of fundamental communication techniques relevant to both academic and professional contexts, including how to structure a presentation properly, highlight key points, and manage body language and vocal intonation.

The second speaker is Prof. Dr.rer.nat. apt. Nanang Fakhrudin, M.Sc., presented a session on “From Boring to Engaging: Techniques for Creating Attractive Presentations.” This topic emphasized the importance of creativity and innovation in preparing presentations that keep audiences engaged and enthusiastic. Participants were provided with practical insights on how to make the most of presentation media, apply storytelling strategies, and deliver data visualization that is both informative and appealing.

The event took place on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, from 07.30 to 12.00 WIB. It was conducted in a hybrid format, held onsite at the Workshop Room, Unit IX, 3rd Floor, Faculty of Pharmacy UGM, and simultaneously online via Zoom, allowing participation from various locations. The workshop was attended primarily by graduate students from the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM, particularly the 2022, 2023, and 2024 cohorts.

Through this initiative, the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the development of students’ soft skills, particularly in public communication and presentation. These competencies are not only essential in academic settings but also play a crucial role in advancing graduates’ professional careers across various sectors.

This workshop is also aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 on Quality Education, by providing innovative and relevant learning opportunities. In addition, it supports SDG 8 on Decent Work and Economic Growth, as graduates equipped with strong communication skills are better prepared to face the challenges of the workforce and contribute positively to national development.

By participating in this workshop, graduate students of the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM are expected to become more confident in delivering their ideas, capable of engaging audiences with compelling presentations, and prepared to excel as both academics and professionals at the national and global levels.
