Faculty of Pharmacy UGM Holds National Workshop, Discusses Strategies to Strengthen Supply Chain Management in the Pharmaceutical Industry

Yogyakarta, June 24, 2025 – The Faculty of Pharmacy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) successfully held a National Workshop titled “Supply Chain Management in the Pharmaceutical Industry” on Tuesday, June 24, 2025. The event took place from 08:00 to 16:30 WIB in a hybrid format: in-person at the S2-5 Workshop Room, 3rd Floor, Building IX of the UGM Faculty of Pharmacy, and online via Zoom Meeting.

The workshop was officially opened by Dr. Dwi Endarti, S.F., M.Sc., Apt., Head of the Master’s Program in Pharmaceutical Management (MMF) at the UGM Faculty of Pharmacy, who also served as moderator throughout the sessions. The workshop was designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the end-to-end pharmaceutical supply chain management (SCM) process, from demand planning, procurement, and production, to distribution to the patient.

The event featured speakers who are experts in pharmacy and supply chain management: Prof. Dr. Satibi, M.Si., Apt., Prof. Dr. apt. Teuku Nanda Saifullah Sulaiman, M.Si., and Drs. Pre Agusta Siswantoro, MBA, Apt. The three speakers presented relevant and practical topics related to supply chain management in the context of Indonesia’s pharmaceutical industry. They emphasized the importance of integrating logistics planning, inventory control, procurement strategies, and quality-based, cost-efficient distribution. Key challenges such as procurement delays, overstock and stock-outs, and distribution to remote areas were major points of discussion.

The event was warmly received by participants, who included pharmaceutical industry practitioners, distributors, academics, and students from various universities. The interactive discussions reflected high enthusiasm among attendees in exploring actionable strategies and solutions for day-to-day practices in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors. Participants also had the opportunity to share experiences and expand their professional networks across sectors.

This workshop also contributed to achieving several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 3 (good health and well-being), SDG 4 (quality education), SDG 9 (industry, innovation, and infrastructure), and SDG 12 (responsible consumption and production), through capacity building, improved drug distribution efficiency, and the implementation of sustainable logistics practices.
