Yogyakarta, June 16, 2025 – The Faculty of Pharmacy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) today hosted an intensive workshop titled “Introduction to Experimental Optimization using Design Expert Software.” Held in the 8th-floor auditorium of the faculty’s APSLC Building, the training aimed to provide students, researchers, and lecturers with a deep understanding and practical skills in using the Design Expert software, toimprove the quality and efficiency of pharmaceutical research.
This initiative directly contributes to several key aspects of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By improving lecturers’ competence in advanced research methodologies like DoE, the faculty is fostering higher quality, more innovative, and relevant pharmaceutical research. This aligns with SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), as better research can accelerate the discovery and development of new medicines and more effective health solutions, ultimately improving public welfare.
Furthermore, the workshop promotes SDG 4 (Quality Education). By equipping lecturers with cutting-edge skills in experimental design, UGM’s Faculty of Pharmacy not only enhances its teaching capacity but also ensures that course materials and research guidance for students are up-to-date and based on best practices. This creates an academic environment conducive to innovation and lifelong learning, preparing the next generation with strong research capabilities.
The training also indirectly supports SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) by strengthening research and innovation capacity in the pharmaceutical sector. By mastering Design Expert, researchers can design experiments more efficiently and optimize product development processes. This encourages closer collaboration between academia and the pharmaceutical industry, building a stronger innovation ecosystem and accelerating the transition to a more sustainable, science-based industry. The presence of Prof. Dr. apt. Akhmad Kharis Nugroho, M.Si. as the keynote speaker, also underscores the faculty’s commitment to these goals.
Through a hands-on approach that combines lectures, direct practice, and interactive discussions, the workshop aims for participants to not only understand the core concepts of DoE but also become skilled in using Design Expert software for experimental design and analysis. The long-term goal is to form a community of Design Expert users within the UGM Faculty of Pharmacy who will continue to collaborate and share knowledge to advance impactful pharmaceutical research.
