Faculty of Pharmacy UGM Co-Hosts International Summer Course with Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing UGM, Focusing on Integrative Cancer Management

Yogyakarta, July 15, 2025 – The Faculty of Pharmacy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) is co-hosting the 2025 Summer Course titled “Integrative Cancer Management: A Roadmap to Better Outcome.” Collaborating with the Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing (FK-KMK) UGM as the main host, along with the Faculty of Dentistry (FKG) and the Faculty of Psychology, this program is designed to provide a comprehensive interdisciplinary learning experience for participants from various countries. The main objective is to equip participants with the knowledge, practical insights, and global perspectives to contribute significantly to integrated cancer care efforts.

As a part of this collaboration, the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM became the center for several important sessions. One of these is an intensive class on “Cancer Chemoprevention,” held on Tuesday, July 15, 2025. This class is directly coordinated by an expert from the UGM Faculty of Pharmacy, Dr. sc. apt. Rohmad Yudi Utomo, M.Sc., and took place in the CBT Room, on the 7th floor of the Advanced Pharmaceutical Sciences Learning Center (APSLC) Building. Furthermore, the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM also served as the primary location for practicum sessions, giving participants the opportunity to gain hands-on experience related to pharmaceutical research and development in cancer treatment. This involvement highlights the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM’s excellence in pharmacology and drug development, which are essential pillars of cancer management.

The implementation of this summer course is in line with UGM’s commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The event directly contributes to SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by enhancing global knowledge of integrative cancer management. Additionally, the program embodies SDG 4 (Quality Education) through an innovative international educational platform, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), demonstrated by the synergistic collaboration between faculties, including Pharmacy, Medicine, Dentistry, and Psychology to holistically address complex health challenges.

According to Dr. sc. apt. Rohmad Yudi Utomo, M.Sc., representing the Faculty of Pharmacy, this multidisciplinary involvement is vital. “Cancer management can no longer be viewed from a single perspective. The role of pharmacy in chemoprevention and the development of new therapies is key. Through this summer course, we share our expertise while also learning from other disciplines to create a more effective and humane roadmap for cancer treatment,” he stated.
