Yogyakarta, 20 January 2026 — The Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), and the School of Pharmacy, University College London (UCL), officially signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) as an initial commitment to strengthen academic and scientific collaboration in the field of pharmaceutical sciences. The signing of the LoI marks a strategic step for both institutions in expanding international partnerships aimed at enhancing knowledge exchange, global networking, and academic and research capacity building.
Under the Letter of Intent, the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM and UCL agreed to collaborate through a series of academic activities, including guest lectures and visiting professor programs. Each institution appointed a coordinator to support the development and management of joint activities, while detailed implementation of specific projects will be jointly formulated in accordance with institutional priorities and the availability of funding. Both parties also agreed to uphold mutual confidentiality regarding intellectual property and to further explore opportunities to formalize the collaboration through a Memorandum of Agreement in the future.
This collaboration demonstrates the shared commitment of UGM and UCL to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 on Quality Education by fostering international academic exchange, SDG 9 on Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure through collaborative research and knowledge development, and SDG 17 on Partnerships for the Goals by strengthening global cooperation between higher education institutions.
The Letter of Intent is non-legally binding and was signed by the authorized representatives of each institution, namely Prof. Michael Heinrich on behalf of the School of Pharmacy, University College London, and Prof. Dr. rer. nat. apt. Nanang Fakhrudin, M.Si., as the Vice-Dean for Research, Community Service, Partnership, and Alumni of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Gadjah Mada.
