Pharmacy UGM – The Faculty of Pharmacy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) continues to strengthen its international network through strategic collaborations with global educational institutions. On Friday (May 30), representatives from the UGM Faculty of Pharmacy met with a delegation from Leiden University, the Netherlands, to discuss the continuation of the Joint Doctoral Program (JDP) collaboration between the two institutions.
This meeting followed a previously established academic partnership, including a mini symposium exploring research collaboration, with a focus on developing a joint doctoral program aimed at enhancing research capacity and the quality of higher education in the field of pharmacy. During the discussion, both parties evaluated the outcomes of the ongoing collaboration and formulated concrete steps to expand its scope, including joint funding schemes, co-supervision, and the development of an integrated curriculum.
Representing UGM at the meeting were Prof. Dr. apt. Satibi, M.Si. (Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy), Prof. Dr.rer.nat. apt. Nanang Fakhrudin, M.Si. (Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, Cooperation, and Alumni), drh. Retno Murwanti, M.P., Ph.D., apt. Setyowati Triastuti Utami, M.Sc., Ph.D., and Devi Afifa Rahma, S.Tr.Li.
Dean Prof. Dr. apt. Satibi, M.Si., stated that this collaboration aligns with UGM Pharmacy’s internationalization vision and its commitment to producing doctoral graduates with global competitiveness. “Through this program, we hope to create an academic environment that supports collaborative PhD student research, knowledge exchange, as well as information and technology transfer between Indonesia and the Netherlands,” he said.
The Leiden University delegation was represented by Prof. Dr. Jasper Knoester (Dean of the Faculty of Science), Prof. Dr. Erik Danen (Dean of the Graduate School of Science), Prof. Dr. Fons Verbeek, and Ms. Yun Tian. Prof. Dr. Jasper Knoester emphasized the importance of long-term partnerships in the development of pharmaceutical sciences.
As part of its commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), this collaboration directly supports several key points, including SDG 4 (Quality Education) through improved access to and quality of higher education based on global partnership; SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) through pharmaceutical research for public health; and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through the strengthening of strategic partnerships between international educational institutions. Through this collaboration, a strong synergy is expected to emerge in building innovative, relevant, and impactful pharmaceutical research for broader communities, both nationally and internationally.
