Yogyakarta, July 9, 2025 – Building on the momentum from the previous day, the Faculty of Pharmacy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and the National Research and Innovation Agency’s (BRIN) Research Center for Applied Microbiology continued their agenda with a second day of in-depth discussions on potential collaborations. The intensive meeting took place in the Leadership Meeting Room at UGM’s Advanced Pharmaceutical Learning and Science Center (APLSC).
The BRIN delegation, including Prof. Dr. Puspita Lisdiyanti, Akhirta Atikana, M.Sc., and Dr. Gusnaniar, joined UGM representative Dr. Matin Nuhamunada, S.Si., M.Sc., to focus on concrete steps toward formalizing their partnership. The agenda centered on exploring joint research opportunities, establishing mechanisms for knowledge and technology sharing, and synergistically utilizing laboratory facilities to drive pharmaceutical innovation. The discussion was highly productive, with both parties mapping out their respective strengths and opportunities to be combined in future research projects.
This strategic partnership directly supports the achievement of several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The intensive effort to build synergy reflects SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), which emphasizes the importance of inter-institutional collaboration for impactful results. By focusing on joint innovation and technology use, the collaboration also reinforces SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), contributing to a resilient national research ecosystem. Ultimately, these efforts aim to make a tangible contribution to SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), as the discovery and development of new pharmaceutical products are expected to provide solutions to public health challenges.
Prof. Dr. Puspita Lisdiyanti of BRIN expressed her optimism about the collaboration. “We see a shared vision and immense potential for joint research, especially in leveraging Indonesia’s rich biodiversity. The facilities and expertise at UGM’s Faculty of Pharmacy are highly supportive. We hope these discussions will quickly move forward to a concrete implementation phase,” she stated.
The second day concluded with an agreement to form a joint working group tasked with drafting an initial collaborative research proposal. This partnership is expected to accelerate the translation of research findings into innovative products that will benefit both industry and the community.
