Purworejo, 10 January 2026 – The Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), actively participated in a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) organized by the Keluarga Alumni Universitas Gadjah Mada (KAGAMA) Purworejo. The forum was designed as a strategic platform to strengthen alumni contributions to regional development while simultaneously enhancing the quality and reputation of UGM. The FGD served as a space for dialogue among alumni, the university, and local stakeholders to formulate concrete alumni roles in advancing higher education and sustainable development.
The discussion highlighted the importance of UGM alumni engagement in supporting key university reputation indicators, including active participation in global ranking surveys such as the QS World University Rankings, as well as providing constructive input for UGM’s development in education, research, and community service. Through this forum, alumni were encouraged to act as strategic partners of the university in maintaining academic quality, curriculum relevance, and the societal impact of research.
The role of the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM in this activity was reflected in the involvement of its alumni within the leadership structure of KAGAMA Purworejo. The Chair of KAGAMA Purworejo, Drs. apt. Wasilin, is an alumnus of the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM (Class of 1987). The presence and contributions of Pharmacy UGM alumni in this forum demonstrate the faculty’s success in producing graduates who are not only academically excellent, but also socially engaged, equipped with leadership capacity, and committed to continuously contributing to their alma mater and society.
In addition, the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM was represented by the Vice Dean, Prof. Dr. rer. nat. apt. Nanang Fakhrudin, M.Si., who took part in the discussion, particularly in gathering alumni aspirations related to strengthening pharmacy education, developing research that is relevant to regional and national needs, and optimizing community service programs. Alumni input was regarded as a crucial element in ensuring that the implementation of the university’s tridharma remains adaptive to global dynamics and real-world needs.
Through synergy between the university and its alumni, the KAGAMA Purworejo FGD is expected to produce strategic recommendations that not only enhance UGM’s reputation at the national and international levels, but also strengthen UGM’s scholarly contributions to sustainable regional development.
This activity is also aligned with the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) through strengthening alumni roles in improving the quality of higher education; SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) through alumni contributions to research and innovation development; SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) through synergy between the university, alumni, and regional stakeholders; and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through strategic collaboration among higher education institutions, alumni, and local stakeholders.
