Faculty of Pharmacy at Universitas Gadjah Mada Initiates RPL and LSP for Future-Ready Pharmacist

Yogyakarta, June 25, 2025 – The Faculty of Pharmacy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) hosted a workshop to kickstart its Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Professional Certification Body (LSP) programs. Held at the 8th Floor Auditorium of the APSLC Building, the event was officially opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Prof. Dr. Satibi, S.Si., M.Si. Apt., who emphasized the faculty’s dedication to delivering high-quality education.

This workshop marks a pivotal move by the Faculty of Pharmacy to become an institution capable of formally acknowledging learning acquired by students and the wider community through various channels—formal, non-formal, and informal. The RPL mechanism is crucial for recognizing and converting learning and work experience into academic credits. Concurrently, the LSP plays a vital role in ensuring graduate competency through rigorous assessment processes that align with national standards and industry demands. Establishing an LSP within the university environment is also a strategic step toward validating competencies in a credible manner.

“The Faculty of Pharmacy sees the initiation of the RPL program and the establishment of an LSP as essential for improving educational quality and graduate competitiveness,” stated Professor Satibi. “This workshop serves as a forum for discussion, shared understanding, and the initial planning for implementing these programs.”

This initiative by the Faculty of Pharmacy is highly relevant to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By implementing Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and a Professional Certification Body (LSP), the faculty directly supports SDG 4, Quality Education. This is achieved by facilitating inclusive access to education and validating diverse competencies, ultimately enhancing learning pathways. It also contributes to SDG 8, Decent Work and Economic Growth, as it boosts graduate employability and creates better job opportunities for a skilled workforce. Furthermore, by improving human resource quality, the program indirectly supports SDG 9, Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, providing a skilled and adaptable workforce crucial for industrial advancement.

The workshop featured two main sessions led by expert speakers. Dr. Sigit Priyanto from UGM’s Directorate of Education and Teaching presented on “Policy and Practice of RPL Implementation in Higher Education.” Following this, Dr. Setyawan Bekti Wibowo, Head of UGM’s LSP from the Vocational School, discussed “Strategies for LSP Establishment and Operation.”

The event concluded with a panel discussion facilitated by the Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs, allowing participants to engage in further questions and discussions.
