Apothecary Student UGM Wins Second Place in AstraZeneca Project iDEA 2025

Yogyakarta, August 21, 2025 – The prestigious AstraZeneca Project iDEA 2025 was a proud moment for Aisyah Nur Khasanah, a student of the Apothecary Profession Study Program at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). The Rare Hero team she led won second place in the competition.

This competition challenged students from various universities in Indonesia to present innovative solutions for treating rare diseases, a global health issue often overlooked in terms of early diagnosis, treatment, education, and access to health insurance.

The Rare Hero team, consisting of Aisyah Nur Khasanah (UGM Pharmacist Program), Fanny Anabel Sulistio (UI Pharmacy Bachelor’s Degree), and Saffana Kalista (UI Pharmacist Program), presented a creative idea in the form of Renaya, a collectible figure shaped like a blind box that functions not only as a toy but also as an educational tool to raise public awareness about rare diseases.

This creative concept combines elements of education, empathy, and design innovation in each Renaya figure. The concept is complemented by fact cards and QR codes linked to information, patient stories, and advocacy activities. With this approach, Rare Hero strives to transform public curiosity into awareness, and awareness into concrete action to support those battling rare diseases.

Rare Hero captured the judges’ attention thanks to its combination of creative innovation, social impact, and sustainability, earning the team second place in the online finals on August 21, 2025.

This success is not only a source of pride for the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM but also affirms the role of Indonesian students as agents of change, ready to provide innovative solutions to address various health issues, particularly rare diseases that are often overlooked. This achievement is also in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, which emphasizes the importance of improving the quality of public health and well-being, and SDG 4: Quality Education, through efforts to disseminate creative and inclusive health education.
