Farmasi UGM – The Pharmacist Professional Program (PSPA) of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Gadjah Mada University (UGM) held a guest lecture titled “From Development to Patients: The Journey of In Vitro Diagnostic (IVD)” on Monday (February 10th) at the Auditorium on the 8th floor of the APSLC Building, Faculty of Pharmacy, UGM.
This guest lecture, which also served as the inaugural lecture for new PSPA students in the Even Semester of the 2024/2025 Academic Year at UGM’s Faculty of Pharmacy, aimed to provide new insights to students regarding in vitro diagnostic (IVD) products, how these products are developed, tested, produced, and how their use is related to the pharmacist profession.
The guest lecture featured Apt. Fairus Zabadi, S.Farm., Quality Head of PT. Virtue Diagnostics Indonesia, as the speaker. He is an expert in the field of diagnostic product development and IVD regulations with extensive experience in the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries. With in-depth material, Fairus explained the lengthy process of IVD product development, from research and testing to production and distribution to patients.
In addition to discussing technical aspects of IVD products, the guest lecture also highlighted how the pharmacist profession is involved in testing, ensuring quality, and distributing IVD products in the community. The speaker encouraged students to understand the relationship between diagnostic technology development and the role of pharmacists in providing optimal healthcare services.
The Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, UGM, Prof. Dr. Apt. Satibi, M.Si., in his opening remarks, expressed that this guest lecture activity is highly relevant for enhancing students’ knowledge about innovations in healthcare and pharmacy. “As future pharmacists, students are expected to understand the importance of their role in managing IVD products, which are rapidly developing to provide accurate diagnoses for patients,” he said.
This guest lecture is also part of the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM’s effort to continuously expand students’ knowledge about the latest challenges and developments in the pharmaceutical world. Furthermore, this activity supports the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM’s commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) and SDG 4 (Quality Education) by presenting guest lecturers in the fields of healthcare and pharmacy. The material delivered related to IVD also contributes to SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production). Through this activity, it is hoped that students will gain a deeper understanding of IVD and later be able to contribute to the healthcare sector. (Rara/HumasFA)
